The seminar titled “Complete Ban on Single-Use Plastics,” organized by Tenured Professor Dr. Imran Hashmi and Dr. Nazish Iftikhar (Assistant Professor) from SCEE (IESE) at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (SCEE), Institute of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (IESE), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), aimed to address the critical issue of single-use plastics and their environmental impact. This engaging event took place on October 2, 2024, and focused on educating attendees about the urgent need to reduce plastic waste and explore sustainable alternatives.
The seminar featured Mr. Nadeem Iqbal, CEO of The Network for Consumer Protection in Pakistan, as the keynote speaker. Mr. Nadeem provided valuable insights into consumer behaviour, policy measures, and the importance of community engagement in tackling plastic pollution. His expertise and background in public health from prestigious institutions helped frame the discussion around actionable steps for change.
This event served as a platform for collaboration among students and faculty, fostering dialogue on innovative alternatives to single-use plastics and the role of policy in driving sustainability. Participants engaged in discussions that emphasized the importance of education and awareness in promoting environmentally friendly practices.
