International Workshop on Promoting Research on Water-Sensitive Urban Design in Pakistan
The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) successfully hosted an international workshop on “Promoting Research on Water-Sensitive Urban Design in Pakistan” on 28 February 2025 at the IESE Seminar Hall, NUST Islamabad. The event aimed to foster collaboration, share research insights, and discuss innovative solutions for sustainable urban water management in Pakistan. The session commenced with a comprehensive presentation by Dr. Muhammad Arshad, who provided an overview of NUST’s vision regarding sustainable urban water management. His presentation highlighted ongoing and completed research projects at NUST related to urban water-sensitive design, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to sustainable development and innovation in water resource management. The workshop was further enriched by Prof. Tony Wong, a renowned expert in urban water design from Monash University, Australia. Along with his colleagues from Monash University, he delivered an insightful presentation on various completed projects in urban water management. Their discussion showcased advanced strategies, best practices, and case studies that could be adapted to improve Pakistan’s urban water infrastructure. A key highlight of the workshop was the interactive question-and-answer session, where both students and faculty members actively participated. The session fostered engaging discussions, allowing attendees to exchange ideas and seek expert opinions on challenges and solutions in the field of water-sensitive urban design. The workshop concluded on a high note, emphasizing the importance of international collaboration and research-driven approaches in addressing Pakistan’s water security challenges.
