Alumni Talk at SCEE (IESE)
Two distinguished alumni from the BE Environmental Engineering (Batch 2017–2020) visited SCEE (IESE) on 20 January 2026 to engage with current students through an interactive career talk.
Mr. Syed Muhammad Jaffar Abbas, currently serving as a Research Associate at the United Nations University – Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), Germany, shared his extensive international research experience. His professional journey includes roles with WWF-Pakistan, GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research (Germany), HAW Hamburg, University of Kiel, UNU-CRIS (Belgium), and UNU-EHS, with research spanning climate justice, climate resilience, environmental politics, marine microplastics, and culture loss in climate disasters.
Mr. Farhan Rafique Shah, a PhD Researcher at the University of Konstanz, Germany, discussed his research on light pollution and its ecological impacts. He highlighted his academic and professional background, including research experience at the University of Groningen, internships at the Ministry of Climate Change and NUST, and his Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Akdeniz Üniversitesi, Turkey.
During the session, both speakers guided students on international scholarships, research proposal and academic writing, skill development, and career planning in academia and research-oriented professions. The event witnessed active participation from a large number of students, along with the presence of faculty members, leading to an engaging question-and-answer session.
At the conclusion of the event, Associate Dean Dr. Muhammad Arshad expressed gratitude to the alumni for their valuable insights and continued connection with the department. The session concluded with an informal fruitful discussion, providing students an opportunity for direct interaction with the speakers.
