Introduction

The Environment and Agriculture Lab, located in the School of Interdisciplinary Engineering & Science (SINES), is well-equipped to support research in various environmental and agricultural studies. Utilizing advanced analytical tools, the lab conducts water, soil, and air quality assessments, develops re-mediation technologies, and supports biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation.

Major research activities

  • Monitoring nutrient levels and pH balance in agricultural soils.
  • Studying the impact of fertilizers, pesticides, and soil amendments.
  • Measuring parameters like dissolved oxygen, electrical conductivity, pH, and total dissolved solids to assess the impact of pollutants and agricultural run-off.
  • Recycling waste-water in agriculture through treatment and reuse technologies.
  • Studying the use of organic materials to improve soil fertility and carbon sequestration.
  • Developing strategies to enhance crop resilience to environmental stresses such as drought and extreme temperatures.
  • Evaluating the toxicity of pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides on non-target organisms in soil and water.
  • Studying the long-term effects of pollutants on soil microbial communities and ecosystem functions.
